SING TO THE KING

FORCED TO LISTEN
Numbers 22:21-31
Rushing to get there,
to do what I want,
I am stopped by red lights.

Like Baalam’s donkey,
seeing the angel
invisible to his master,
I am stopped in my tracks.

Like Baalam
I am given pause,
forced to listen
to the other
who calls himself
I AM.

In the silence
I hear the words
of Jesus,
“Not as I will,
but as you will.”

WORD -EATERS

“For the word of God is living
and active...sharper than any
double-edged sword...” Hebrews 4.12

Sword-swallower,
Christ consumed
God's word and
gave it flesh as bread.

                              Dying, silenced
by cross, word
worked as yeast
to make bread rise.

                              Broken from death
His power transforms
the unbelieving
into word-swallowers.

HIS PEACE
“Peace I leave yu, my peace I give you.”
John 14:27

This sense of peaceis
drawn –
delicate, fragile, trembling
as a spider’s fine filament
in a fitful breeze –
from depths I cannot plumb
with any certainty.  But this
I know:
there is no end to it…
